For parents and carers
Behavioural consultation for parents
Not every family needs a full programme. Sometimes you need an experienced Behaviour Analyst to help you see the pattern, agree a few practical changes and check whether they are working.
What it is
Specialist guidance, not generic parenting advice
Parent consultation is focused time with an experienced Behaviour Analyst to understand your child’s behaviour, agree a few practical changes and check whether they help. It is for parents who want expert input without necessarily starting a full programme.
You know your child better than anyone. Pooja brings a structured way of looking at patterns, and approximately 19 years of experience of what tends to help in real family life. Together you work out what is going on and what to try first.
Consultation can take place at home or online, and can be a single session with a written summary or a short series with reviews.
Understand the pattern
When it happens, what sets it off, what keeps it going.
Change the situation
Small adjustments to routine, demands and environment.
Teach a skill
A better way for your child to ask, wait or cope.
Respond calmly
A shared way to respond that feels realistic for your family.
When it helps
Parents often ask for help with
- Meltdowns and distress
- Hitting, biting or throwing
- Bedtime and sleep
- Mealtimes and eating
- Toilet training
- Screens and transitions
- Mornings and getting to school
- Siblings and family outings
What you take away
A plan you can actually use
The outcome depends on the scope you agree, but typically includes a clear working understanding of the behaviour, a small number of practical strategies, a simple way to record what happens, and a review.
Pooja will tell you honestly if consultation alone is unlikely to be enough, and whether a functional assessment, an ABA programme or another professional would help more.
Consultation is based on your child’s current needs. It can start while an autism or ADHD assessment is pending. It does not replace a diagnostic, medical, speech and language or occupational therapy assessment where one is needed.
Next step
Not sure where to start? Start with a conversation.
Tell Pooja what is happening in ordinary words. You do not need to know whether you need ABA, PBS or an assessment. The first call is free, and you can decide on any next step afterwards.
